Super nice music: Pedro De La Rosa

26 Mar

Summer is right around the corner and you know what what means… more summery tunes to help us beat the heat as we dance the next few months away! What better way to shed those winter coats and bring some sunshine back in the world than with some feel good music?

Pedro De La Rosa decided to put this music on youtube, which happens to be one of the biggest tracks out in the dance music world.Right now. The collaborative efforts turned a phenomenal song into a main stage sensation. With its emotive resonance stemming around a melodic progression, its big tech house synths, and an upbeat kick to get the dopamine flowing, this tune is bound to surge across the kinetic fields at every upcoming festival.

Now go pull out those dusty swim suits, grab the tanning lotion, and put this one on repeat because you’re about to hear one of the most infectious remixes out there.

Boys Noize (Alex Ridha) is amongst an elite group of highly respected DJ/Producers to have earned legendary status. Whether producing monster tracks such as “Starwin”, playing to thousands of people around the world, remixing for the likes of David Lynch, Depeche Mode and Daft Punk, working with artists as varied as Skrillex, Snoop Dogg, Santigold and Chilly Gonzales, or as label boss of his own Boysnoize Records, it’s fair to say Boys Noize has never been in more demand or on better form than currently: now iced with the proverbial cherry by being next in line to mix the legendary FABRICLIVEseries. Working two jobs just to buy turntables and satisfy his insatiable appetite for buying house, disco and hip hop records from the age of 14 years old, Hamburg-born Alex Ridha played his first ever gig at the age of 16 and from there – by his own admittance – “everything went pretty crazy.” Happy to just make back the money he’d spent on vinyl, before long his productions were supported by the likes of 2manydjs, Erol Alkan and Laurent Garnier, releasing on Kitsune and Turbo before exclusively releasing on his own label (with Cocoon and Phantasy the only recent exceptions). Renowned as a fast-paced, party DJ, Boys Noize does not disappoint on his FABRICLIVE mix.

“Around 2006-2007 I played together with Justice & crew in Room 2 and I was very excited, because it was really a dream come true to play London’s famous fabric. I remember it was super dark: smoke, sweat and lasers and people everywhere. I thought the club was so massive. I had no orientation, I didn’t know where the exit was or anything.”- Boys Noize

FABRICLIVE 72 is a frenetic, fast-paced representation of a typical Boys Noize set, condensed into 70 pulsating, sweaty minutes. Not simply a melting pot of the newest tracks, but an education in crazy techno and hi-energy jackin’ house, it switches up between Boysnoize Records releases – Tracques ‘Motor’ – to Gesaffelstein’s ‘Aufstand’ and Four Tet’s ‘For These Times’ with timeless ease. Its upbeat, happy attitude is clearly in full swing with Ridha focusing on melody for the home listener. Featuring a demo version of new track ‘Anoid’ (a gnarly, industrial slice sewn bang into the middle of the mix), his collab with Skrillex under the Dog Blood moniker (the breakbeat-powered ‘Chella Ride’), and new edits of underground tracks by Aden, DJ Deeon and Anthony Naples, Boys Noize proves time and time again that he is a man fully in control of his craft.bn_londonfabric_2

“I really tried to sum up my two to three hour set in 70 minutes. My sets usually include many styles and at some points I mix pretty fast too. I play some jackin’ house and techno with crazy energy stuff and then go back to reduced dub or even classic electro or breaks. Mygoal was to combine all of the styles I play but also make it listenable. All in all I think this DJ mix is pretty timeless, colourful and happy.” – Boys Noize

Single ‘Holdin On’ to be released on OWSLA in OCTOBER 2012

MONSTA have been described as having the melodic synth thrum of Flux Pavilion, the tech-soul vocal drops of Moby and the reverberant snares of trip-hop act U.N.K.L.E. -but their sound is instrument-based and largely sample-free and it was Skrillex who found them. The trio (producers Rocky and Rufio and vocalist Skaar) will release their first EP on the electronic dance music (EDM) star’s indie imprint OWSLA this Autumn.

“I was at South by Southwest with my manager Tim [Smith] and a few friends,” says Skrillex. “Tim says, ‘I got something,’ and pulls up [MONSTA’s ‘Holdin’ On’]. I said, ‘That’s a sick track and a cool vocal sample. Where’d they get that from? Is that Aretha Franklin?’’ But it wasn’t a sample. It was Skaar’s powerfully androgynous performance of an original song written and recorded by the group.

‘Holdin’ On’ has all the makings of a radio hit-not only an irresistible vocal hook, but a complete verse-chorus-verse song structure. The EP boasts remixes from electronic music’s finest; Dillon Francis, Alvin Risk and even though he has turned down requests from the worlds biggest stars, Skrillex has cleared his schedule to put his mark on the EP with an exclusive remix too (his last one won him a Grammy Award). “This is not your typical dubstep. A lot of that has already become cliché,” he says. “This is next-level.”

Mr Odd… You will love it…

Happy day everybody!

Awesome Running Track Of The Day

7 Mar

Some of you may have noticed that the normal daily posts of this blog disappeared last week. It was one of those ‘life takes over’ couple of days and I’m still only just catching up. Therefore today’s post is short, sweet, but could make you dance like a dervish.

You see my completely over booked schedule also meant gym time also disappeared but Spotify obviously knowing that I needed to move in some way shape or form to keep me sane, just kept throwing the following track at me. The first time I heard it I wrote it on the list I have by my desk at all times headed ‘songs to download for running’ – by the second time I heard it, I couldn’t stand it any longer. Up went the volume, my hands went up in the air and next thing I knew I was dancing round my desk. I’ve talked before about how much I love desk dancing and it’s always a joy when a song comes along that makes it impossible not to do it. So, for anyone else who fancies a desk dance – or something to update their playlist with I give you Booyah by Showtek. And yes, I am aware the vocals are a little reminiscent of King Julian from Madagascar in places but that just adds to it for me.
