Shot at the famous Ministry of Sound club for Pioneer ProDJ to demonstrate their new SVM-1000 AV mixer.

I Directed a crew of six cameramen and also used a further six cameras rigged in various locations around the club. We shot over 26 hours of tape that were edited into this five minute piece. It was an amazing experience. The clubbers were very friendly and Sanders set was a big crowd pleaser.

Photos I took during the recce of the club with Simon Hart from Pioneer                pretending to be Sander.Photos taken of the Ministry of Sound DJ Booth during my Recce

My quick visualisation of the DJ booth used to discuss camera and lighting locations with the crew pre-shootmy quick visualisation of the DJ booth used to discuss camera positions to the crew before the shoot

Commissioned by Pioneer ProDJ this sequence was designed to demonstrate thier DJM-800 mixer. Shot on chroma-green (original studio shoot is also below). The CGI sub-sea environment and sealife were generated in 3dstudio Max and were layered in After Effects. This video was made in less than three weeks as it was required for an event.  Please let me know what you think.

Made and edited by my friend Simon Burges from production company Sugar Snap TV, this video has me demonstrating each stage of the post-production process for this video – It’s weird being on the other side of the camera, I’m now on a diet and exercise regime!

Here’s the original edit without any effects. I used a fan to blow James’ hair and some wavy silver foil to fake some caustic reflections. The white Pioneer desk looked naff so I decided to replace it in post-production. If you look at the wide shots you’ll see some hanging white boards, these were placed over the equipment to stop the lights reflecting into the equipment.

Insignificant Moments

today i couldnt find a pen to write some new material. i was irritated. when you dont need something its always so easy to find, and then when you really need something, it becomes impossible. my point is obvious. there are moments where you take things for granted. and not always necessarily with a negative connotation, but taken lightly none the less.

about 2 years ago, before mi casa was anything, i sat in a studio. by myself. with some grooves sent to me from overseas. not my normal type of groove. but music that touched me in some way. very innocently i placed the microphone in front of the pc. hit record. and a song was born that today is making huge waves. i regard this song as one of my most personal pieces of artwork. the song i am talking about is ‘over the rainbow.’

now what you need to understand with this song is. i had never recorded alone. recording wasnt done with great quality. and i had no idea that i was busy writing a song that was for cosmic gate (currently in the top 20 djs in the world). i was just there putting my heart on paper and flowing with my emotions. this song now has a music video. it has been played all over the world. entered charts around the world. been selected as the favorite song of the week by the worlds number 2 dj in the world, armin van buuren. and been remixed by many, including w&w and da capo.

an innocent moment. not much thought of it. yet so much significance. and these type of moments will continue to occur. the important lesson is, for me at least, always be prepared for success. be prepared for the best. set your mind on the highest heights.

dream away dreamer …

much love

Review Axwell Hollywood Palladium

Yesterday was a very special day for BBC Radio 1 listeners as Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, together known as the Swedish House Mafia sat in for the second time to host the legendary Pete Tong‘s two hour radio show. The SHM broadcasted from Steve’s studio in Los Angeles and were joined by a very special guest none other than Joel Zimmerman aka deadmau5! To kick off the show the Mafia debut their brand new track “Greayhound” that immediately got me out of my seat. The two hour long show was jam packed with the best that dance music has to offer at the moment. Deadmau5 dropped a mini-mix consisting of some new material and also showed love to an up and coming group that I am very excited about because one member walked the halls of my high school back in Manhattan Beach CA! The group I speak of is  No Body and their new collab with Deth Hertz “Ready 2 Fly” was first given love from the mau5 back in January when he dropped it at his birthday party in Vegas. Enough from me as I will now send it over to Ax, Seb and Steve! (My apologies if the dL doesn’t work, I will try and keep looking for new ones but they are pretty good about keeping this one off limits).
